Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters
Dubai Marina, JBR and Bluewaters make up Dubai's most urban beach district: a public beach below the towers, a 1.7 km promenade, tram and metro, evening cruises and two European Tour golf clubs nearby. The international airport is about 35 km away.
Dubai Marina is the district to pick if you want beach and city on foot: a yacht harbour lined with towers, the public beach at JBR and its promenade, Bluewaters island just offshore, all served by tram and metro. People come for evenings by the water, for sport and for golf. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is about 35 km away, according to the Ritz-Carlton.
Who is where: four neighbouring addresses
- Dubai Marina is the harbour district, with residential towers, Dubai Marina Mall and the departure point for cruises. Staying here means staying in town, a few minutes from the beach.
- JBR, short for Jumeirah Beach Residence, is a cluster of 40 towers, 5 of them hotels, set right on the beach. At its foot runs The Walk, a 1.7 km promenade opened in 2008, and The Beach, about 70 shops and restaurants facing the sea.
- Bluewaters is the island just off JBR, linked to the beach by a footbridge: hotels, restaurants and the Ain Dubai wheel.
- Al Sufouh, to the north-east towards Jumeirah, has resorts on a beach facing Palm Jumeirah, including the One&Only Royal Mirage.
Living without a car
This is the district's great strength. The Dubai Tram, 10.6 km long with 11 stops, serves the Marina, JBR and Al Sufouh for AED 3 (UAE dirhams), less than a euro, and connects with the Palm Monorail. The Metro Red Line stops at Sobha Realty and DMCC and runs on to Downtown and the airport. The Getting around Dubai guide explains the Nol card, Dubai's transport ticket, and the fare zones.
Evenings on the water and on the promenade
The Marina comes alive late in the day, when the heat drops and the towers light up.
- Sunset cruise with dinner, 1 hour 30, from about €50 per person; a version with free-flowing drinks costs about €63.
- Shared yacht trip, 1 to 3 hours, from about €24.
- The Walk and The Beach at JBR, for dinner facing the sea without booking an excursion.
- XLine, the zipline strung above the Marina, for about an hour, from about €170.
These are online "from" prices recorded in October 2026.
Ain Dubai: where the wheel stands
Ain Dubai, on Bluewaters, is a 250 m observation wheel with 48 cabins, opened in October 2021. It was closed from March 2022 to December 2024, and a further closure was reported in March 2026. In October 2026 its official website shows daily hours of 10 am to 9 pm local time, last admission 8.15 pm, and tickets from AED 145, about €35, in a shared cabin; a private cabin for six costs from AED 1,260. Given these repeated closures, Sabaro checks that the wheel is running before putting it in an itinerary.
Jumping over the Palm
Skydive Dubai has its drop zone in the Marina. Tandem jumps leave from 13,000 feet, about 4,000 m, for roughly 60 seconds of freefall over Palm Jumeirah after a flight of about twenty minutes. You must be 18 and within weight limits; photos and video are included. Allow from about €700 per person.
Golf on the doorstep
Two of Dubai's major golf clubs are close to the district, and each hosts a DP World Tour event, the European professional tour.
- Emirates Golf Club is 8 km and 13 minutes from Banyan Tree, according to the hotel. It has two 18-hole, par-72 championship courses: the Majlis, 7,301 yards, and the Faldo, 7,052 yards, opened in 1996. There is also a 9-hole par-3 course, an academy and Topgolf. The Majlis hosts the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, from 21 to 24 January 2027, the region's longest-running professional golf tournament.
- Jumeirah Golf Estates has two courses designed by Greg Norman, Earth and Fire. The Earth Course hosts the DP World Tour Championship, the season finale, from 12 to 15 November 2026 and from 11 to 14 November 2027.

Four hotels, four styles
The four hotels in the Sabaro selection here are five-star beach resorts. Prices recorded for two adults in March 2027, taxes and fees included according to the source, plus any nightly tourism tax.
The family resort at JBR. The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai is on JBR beach, a few steps from The Walk. All 294 rooms and suites have a balcony or terrace facing the sea; there are six pools including one for children, the Ritz Kids club and a 12-room spa. It is the least expensive of the four, from about €510 a night with breakfast, and guests score it 9.1 out of 10 on Booking.com.
The world's highest pool. Address Beach Resort, two 77-storey towers on JBR beach, has the world's highest outdoor infinity pool on level 77, 293.9 m up, according to Guinness World Records. It is open to all ages until 11.30 am local time, then to guests aged 16 and over. The spa is on level 75, JBR beach is at the foot of the towers, and guests score it 9.4. From about €690 a night with breakfast: the pick for couples who want the buzz of JBR.
Island and spa. Banyan Tree Dubai, on Bluewaters, has a 500 m private beach facing Ain Dubai, rooms of at least 54 m² and a spa whose treatment rooms each have their own jacuzzi. It is the best rated in the district, at 9.5, and the most expensive, from about €1,060 a night. Golfers are 13 minutes from Emirates Golf Club.
Adults only. The Residence, One&Only Royal Mirage is the 50-room wing of the One&Only Royal Mirage resort at Al Sufouh, described on the official website as reserved for adults. It has its own pool and restaurant, and shares a one-kilometre beach and the One&Only Spa with the resort. It was closed for summer maintenance until mid-October 2026, according to tour operators, and the neighbouring Palace wing has been closed for renovation since April 2026, at least until late 2027: Sabaro confirms the resort's status and rate when you enquire. See the Adults only theme.
In short: with a family, the Ritz-Carlton; for views and buzz, Address Beach Resort; for peace and golf, Banyan Tree; without children, The Residence.
Safety
In March 2026, during the Iranian strikes on the UAE, debris fell on a residential tower in the Marina, 23 Marina, according to press reports. On the regional situation, foreign ministries do not all give the same advice. Your country's advice:
Your country's advice is shown in the box at the top of the page.
The Dubai and the regional situation guide has the details. Taking or sharing pictures of impacts, debris or the security situation is a criminal offence in the UAE, and that includes photos of the Marina posted on social media.
Rip currents can form on JBR beach: swim only on lifeguarded beaches and never when the red flag is flying. Serious jet-ski accidents are frequent: check the operator's insurance and insist on a life jacket for every passenger. The "Travel advice" table on this page gives your country's advice for the area.
