Tafoni Houses takes its name from the hollows that erosion carves at the top of Cappadocia's rock columns, where birds nest. The hotel has borrowed the idea: its 18 suites, set in the caves and cave houses of Ortahisar, are each named after a bird's nest. The MICHELIN Guide, which counts it among the best cave hotels in the region, finds it "more grand than cozy".
Suites like cabinets of curiosities
No two suites are alike. All have large windows, stone arches and colourful tiled floors. The finest, according to the MICHELIN Guide, are almost museums: carefully restored antiques and decorative objects, with bathrooms in marble and stone from across Turkey. The most affordable category, the Advantage Suite, comes with breakfast.
Terraces, gallery and dining
The hotel has broad terraces open to the landscape of Ortahisar and its valleys, an art gallery and a fine-dining restaurant. Ortahisar lies away from the crowds of Göreme: it has the calm of a village, with its rock castle at the centre.
Location
Tafoni Houses is in Ortahisar, at Halit Efendi Sokak No. 16. Ürgüp and Göreme are about ten minutes' drive away; Nevşehir Airport (NAV) is about 40 minutes. In the same village, see also Hezen Cave Hotel and Exedra. For the region, see our Cappadocia page.
Ortahisar and around
From Ortahisar the main Cappadocian sights are a few minutes away: the Göreme Open-Air Museum, the Rose and Red valleys, Ürgüp and its restaurants. Further afield, the underground city of Derinkuyu and the still-rural Soğanlı Valley each make an easy day out.
Prices
In October 2026, for two nights from 1 to 3 June 2027, Booking.com offered the Advantage Suite at about €255 per night for two adults, breakfast included, non-refundable, all taxes included; with free cancellation until 17 May it rose to about €265.
