Ortahisar is the quietest village in the heart of Cappadocia, clustered around a rock pinnacle riddled with chambers, the "middle castle". Hezen Cave Hotel occupies cave houses climbing the hillside. The MICHELIN Guide describes it as a European design hotel transplanted into a Cappadocian cave: eclectic interiors, stone walls, contemporary comfort and deep silence.
Twenty rooms, four types
The standard cave rooms give you the cave experience at a moderate price. For a couple staying several nights, the suite adds a separate living room. For a honeymoon, the Superior Cave Suite, with its hammam bathroom, looks onto the garden and the castle; families have suites of their own.
Bottled water is complimentary, wifi is free, and a self-service drinks room is open day and night.
Restaurant and terraces
Hezen Restaurant serves regional cooking inspired by Anatolian recipes, with vegetarian and vegan dishes, facing Ortahisar Castle. The hotel's terraces look out over the village and its castle.
Services
The hotel arranges airport transfers, balloon flights, day tours and other activities. Cots, car seats and pushchairs are lent on request. A laundry room with an iron is available to guests.
Location
Hezen is in Ortahisar, Esentepe Mahallesi, Tahir Bey Sokak No. 87. Ürgüp and Göreme are about ten minutes' drive away; Nevşehir Airport (NAV) is about 40 minutes. For the region, see our Cappadocia page.
Prices
In October 2026, for two nights from 1 to 3 June 2027, the hotel's own website offered its cheapest room at about €170 per night for two adults, breakfast not included, with free cancellation until 25 May, all taxes included. With breakfast, the double room was offered at around €180 per night on other sites.
Sabaro's view
For whom: couples who want a well-kept cave hotel at a moderate price; travellers who prefer a quiet village to the busy streets of Göreme.
Strengths: the view of Ortahisar Castle; the superior suites with a hammam; a Google rating of 4.9 out of 5 (387 reviews), one of the highest in the region.
Good to know: standard rooms are small, 15 to 25 m², and the hotel does not advertise a pool. Hezen displays a MICHELIN Key received in 2025; it has none in the Guide's 2026 list. For another Ortahisar hotel with a pool and spa, see Exedra.
