The idea: sleep on the course

Marrakech has around ten golf courses, spread around the city from the Palmeraie to the Ourika road. This trip picks three with different characters and stays on one of them: the Fairmont Royal Palm, at kilometre 12 on the Amizmiz road, in a 231-hectare olive grove on the Haouz plain. You walk from your room to the first tee; the other two courses are a drive away.

Six nights allow four or five rounds without playing every day, with half a day in the medina and time at the spa. The pace also suits a couple where only one plays: the resort has plenty to fill the other's day.

Three courses, three characters

Royal Palm, the hotel course

An 18-hole championship course, par 72, designed by golf architect Cabell B. Robinson, with the Atlas as a backdrop. It was nominated at the 2025 World Golf Awards in the Morocco's Best Golf Course category. It is open all year, from 8 am to 6 pm, local time.

Access is limited to players with a licence and a handicap of 28 or better. Tee times can be booked online, by email or by phone. The Royal Palm Golf Academy welcomes those not yet at that level: driving range, putting green, private, semi-private or group lessons. After your round, the country club has its restaurant, Sabra, and the Legends' Bar, with a terrace over the course.

Amelkis, lakes and red earth

Amelkis golf club is at kilometre 12 on the Ouarzazate road, south-east of the city, on a private estate of more than 450 hectares facing the Atlas. Its 27 holes, three loops of nine, are also by Cabell B. Robinson. The club describes wide American-style fairways, dog-legs (holes that bend left or right) winding between the mounds, seven lakes, and red-earth hazards that give the course its character.

The club lists its green fee at 950 dirhams for 18 holes and 550 dirhams for 9, and a buggy at 400 dirhams for 18 holes.

Assoufid, the newest

Assoufid is an 18-hole, par-72 course of 6,440 m, about twenty minutes from the medina. It opened in October 2014, designed by the Scot Niall Cameron, a former European Tour player, as his first course.

From 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027, an 18-hole green fee costs 1,300 dirhams including all taxes, and 700 dirhams for 9 holes. A buggy costs 450 dirhams, a caddie 250 dirhams and club hire 400 dirhams, for 18 holes. Range balls are included in the green fee. The maximum handicap allowed is 35, and the certificate is shown at reception before paying.

A typical week

One possible plan, to adapt to available tee times:

  • Day 1, arrival. Marrakech-Menara airport is about 15 minutes from the hotel. A bucket of balls on the range to loosen up.
  • Day 2, Royal Palm. First round on the hotel course, in the morning, with low light across the Atlas.
  • Day 3, Amelkis. On the 27 holes, you play two of the three nine-hole loops.
  • Day 4, the medina. A half-day guided tour, about 4 hours: starting at the Café de France on Jemaa el-Fna, the Bahia Palace, the Semmarine and El Attarine souks, the Ben Youssef Madrasa. Entry fees are extra, 100 dirhams for the Bahia and 50 for the madrasa. The hotel concierge offers a free shuttle to several points in the city centre, 12 km away. The afternoon at the spa.
  • Day 5, Assoufid.
  • Day 6, Royal Palm. A second round on the hotel course, or a fourth course: the Noria golf club, designed by Steve Forrest, is part of the hotel's packages.
  • Day 7, departure.

What to know before you play

  • Documents. Bring your licence card and a handicap certificate: Royal Palm requires 28 or better, Assoufid 35 or better.
  • Green fees. The trip does not include them. The hotel does not publish the Royal Palm green fee. It does sell two golf packages, bookable until 19 December 2026: four nights with three green fees (two at Royal Palm, one at Noria) and seven nights with five green fees (three at Royal Palm, one at Noria, one at Assoufid). Both include transfers to the courses and 15% off spa treatments. For a golfer, the seven-night package, one night longer than this trip, covers most of the programme.
  • Rain. Royal Palm's buggies stay in the garage on rainy days. Marrakech has about 29 days of rain a year, mostly from November to April.
  • Times. All golf and hotel times are local. Morocco has been on GMT all year round since 20 September 2026: the same time as London in winter and 1 hour behind in summer.

The season

October to April. According to the 1991–2020 normals of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for the Marrakech station, the average high is 28.5 °C in October, 19.1 °C in January and 25.7 °C in April. Winter mornings are cool, with an average January low of 5.9 °C: bring a jumper for the first tee. From June to September, heat makes midday golf hard going, with an average July high of 37.7 °C.

For the non-golfer

The resort fills the days. The main pool is 100 m long, facing the course and the Atlas, with two semi-Olympic pools besides. The 3,500 m² spa, designed like a riad, with an indoor pool, offers the hammam ritual with black soap, kessa glove and ghassoul (Atlas clay); it is for over-18s. The tennis and padel academy has four clay courts and two padel courts. In the evening, four restaurants: Capricci for Italian, L'Olivier by the pool, Al Aïn for Moroccan and Lebanese cooking, and Le Bar for Japanese specialities.

For a room, Sabaro recommends an "Atlas View": from the terrace or balcony, it looks over the course and the mountains.
