The View is a mountain eco-resort on a hillside above Al Hamra, at 1,400 m, at the foot of Jebel Shams. Its rooms are standalone units scattered down the slope, each with a terrace or balcony facing the valley. People come less for the hotel itself than for what it opens up: Al Hamra, Misfat al Abriyeen, the Wadi Nakhr canyon and Nizwa are all within an hour.
A hilltop at the end of a track
The View takes some reaching. On the road from Al Hamra to Hail Al Shas, a 4 km track climbs through the mountains to the hotel, and a 4x4 is required. At the top, the whole valley opens up. According to the hotel, it is 200 km and about 2.5 hours by road from Muscat, 45 km and 45 minutes from Nizwa, and 15 minutes from Al Hamra. See our guide to driving in Oman.
Premier or Superior
The resort has around thirty rooms in two categories, all standalone, with en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV, coffee maker, mini fridge and free Wi-Fi.
- Premier Room: full valley view. This is the one to book, for couples and hikers alike: the panorama is the reason to come.
- Superior Room: partial valley view, for a slightly tighter budget.
The hotel's website gives neither room sizes nor bed types, so we have them confirmed when booking. Children up to 5 stay free.
Pool, spa and evenings
The infinity pool at the top of the hill looks out over the valley. Falak Spa offers massages, Ayurvedic treatments (traditional Indian medicine), facials and couples' rituals, from age 16. The restaurant serves dinner on its terrace at sunset, and the hotel lights bonfires in the evening.
The View does not serve alcohol, as it has no licence. Worth knowing if you like a glass of wine with dinner.
Exploring from The View
The hotel makes a good base for two or three days in the western Hajar:
- Al Hamra, 15 minutes away: a 400-year-old town of mud-brick houses two to four storeys high. The living museum of Bait Al Safa shows old Omani daily life in a restored house.
- Misfat al Abriyeen: an oasis village clinging to the rock at around 900 m, with mud and stone houses, terraced gardens and its falaj (traditional irrigation channel).
- Al Hoota Cave: a show cave with an underground lake that is home to rare fish; booking is recommended.
- Jebel Shams: Oman's highest peak, around 3,000 m, and the Wadi Nakhr canyon, where the Balcony Walk (route W6) begins. See Jebel Shams Resort to sleep on the canyon rim.
- Nizwa, 45 minutes away: the fort and the souq (see Nizwa).
For walking and cycling, the hotel works with Bike and Hike Oman, which runs hiking and bike tours. See also our Hajar hiking guide.
Price
In October 2026, for two nights in March 2027, the cheapest room was offered on Booking.com at about €365 a night for two adults, breakfast included, free cancellation up to the day of arrival, possible local taxes extra.
