The Peninsula Istanbul is the grand hotel of the Karaköy waterfront. It occupies four buildings lined up along the Bosphorus at the mouth of the strait, in the new Galataport development: three restored historic buildings and one new one. Guests can arrive by road or by sea. Across the Golden Horn rises the old city; above the district, Galata Tower.

The Bosphorus at the door

The rooms named Bosphorus look over the strait and the old-city rooftops; the ground-floor suites open onto gardens by the water.

The group also offers Peninsula Time: check-in from 6 am and check-out until 10 pm local time, at no extra charge, useful after a night flight or before an evening one.

Rooms and suites

Rooms start at 40 m², generous for Istanbul. The view is the first thing to weigh: the Superior Rooms look over the Karaköy district, the Deluxe Bosphorus Room over the Bosphorus and the old-city rooftops. For a family or a long stay, the Superior Bosphorus Suite adds a living room with sofa bed, and the Deluxe Suite with Garden a private terrace a few steps from the outdoor pool. The largest suites have 44 m² balconies over the Bosphorus, double-height ceilings, rooftop terraces or private pools.

Two pools, a spa and a chef's table

The hotel has two pools: an outdoor pool on the Bosphorus waterfront and a 25 m indoor pool surrounded by Marmara marble columns and lit through domes. The Peninsula Spa occupies a marble-clad lower level in the main building, and the fitness centre is open 24 hours.

On the roof, GALLADA is the restaurant of Fatih Tutak, Türkiye's first two-Michelin-starred chef: Turk-Asian cuisine inspired by the Silk Road, served as a five-course menu. The Lobby serves Mediterranean food all day, while Abelia and the Topside Bar share the terraces. See also our food and dining page.

Location

The hotel stands on Kemankeş Caddesi in Karaköy, in the Pera, Galata and Golden Horn area. Galata Tower is a few minutes' walk uphill; Hagia Sophia is less than 4 km away across the Galata Bridge. Istanbul Airport (IST) is about an hour's drive away without traffic, Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) about 45 minutes.

Rates

In October 2026, for two nights from 1 to 3 June 2027, the cheapest room was offered at €1,188 a night for two adults, €2,376 for the stay, room only and non-refundable, including taxes and fees.

Sabaro's view

For whom: couples and families who want a grand hotel on the water, within walking distance of Galata and the old city; food lovers.

Strengths: the Bosphorus setting in Karaköy; the two pools; GALLADA; rooms of at least 40 m²; a Google rating of 4.5 out of 5.

Good to know: this is one of the most expensive hotels in our Istanbul selection. For a less expensive historic hotel in the same area, see Pera Palace; for a large spa on the Golden Horn, Aliée Istanbul.
