Grand Hyatt Muscat is the sensible choice in Shatti Al Qurum: a large 5-star hotel on the sand of Al Qurm beach, halfway between the airport and old Muscat, and well below the prices of its two neighbours, W Muscat and Mandarin Oriental. It belongs to Grand Hyatt, the luxury brand of the US group Hyatt.

The best value in Shatti Al Qurum

Shatti Al Qurum is the capital's beach district: a long city beach lined with hotels and restaurants, with the Royal Opera House nearby. The Grand Hyatt has one of the most convenient positions for sightseeing. Outside rush hour, allow about 27 minutes from Muscat International Airport, 13 minutes to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and 16 minutes to the Muttrah corniche and souq.

In October 2026, for a two-night stay in March 2027, the cheapest room cost about €230 a night for two adults, room only, taxes and fees included, with any local taxes extra. That is roughly half what its beachfront neighbours charge.

A city beach

The hotel opens straight onto Al Qurm beach, with sun loungers and umbrellas for guests. Diving and windsurfing are available at extra cost. Swimwear is fine on this tourist beach; away from the hotel and the beaches, Oman expects shoulders and knees to be covered. To compare the country's beaches, see beach.

After the works

Between 2024 and 2025 the hotel renovated its pool, garden and lobby. Hyatt now shows a new infinity pool with a lazy river, jacuzzi, children's pool and play area. Some guests still reported building work during summer 2026, so Sabaro asks the hotel before booking whether any work is planned for your dates.

Rooms

The 42 m² King or Twin Room is right for most stays; the Club room, the same size, adds access to the Grand Club Lounge for continental breakfast, then evening cocktails and canapés. Choose a suite for space and a balcony over the Gulf of Oman: the Grand Executive Suite for a family or a special occasion, the three-bedroom Crown Suite for a large family or group.

Where to eat

The hotel lists Mokha Café, Sirj Tea Lounge and JBB Place, plus a terrace grill. The choice is narrower than at the Al Mouj resorts or The Chedi, so it is worth eating out in Shatti Al Qurum or Muttrah, fifteen minutes away. During Ramadan, restaurants outside hotels close during the day.

With children

Children of all ages are welcome; cots are free up to age 2 and extra beds are charged. The new pool, with its lazy river and children's pool, makes this one of the more family-friendly city hotels. Younger children will find fewer supervised activities than at a resort such as DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha with its kids' club. See also family.

Grand Hyatt, W or Mandarin Oriental?

The three hotels sit side by side on the same beach. The Grand Hyatt is the cheapest and the most classic. W Muscat targets guests who go out at night, with its rooftop pool. Mandarin Oriental, opened in 2024, is the newest of the three and the most luxurious, and has a kids' club.

Sabaro's view

Best for: families and couples who want a city beach as a base for Muscat, at a reasonable price.

Strengths: the price; the beach in front of the hotel; the central location between the airport, the Grand Mosque and Muttrah; the rebuilt pool.

Worth knowing: a score of 8.5 out of 10 on Booking.com (702 reviews), below the city's resorts; possible building work, to be confirmed; more a city hotel than a resort.
