Atana Musandam Resort is the most complete hotel in Khasab, the main town of Musandam, Oman's exclave on the Strait of Hormuz: 110 rooms and suites laid out like an Omani village, with a pool, spa, garden and dive centre. It lies about 4 km from Khasab airport and a fifteen-minute walk from the fort.

Current situation: several European foreign ministries advise against travel to Musandam, and they do not all give the same advice. Yours:

Your country's advice is shown in the box at the top of the page.

Our guide Oman and the regional situation follows how it changes. Sabaro offers no trip ideas for Musandam while this advice remains in force; this page provides information on the hotel.

A town hotel

Khasab is a small coastal town surrounded by mountains and khors, the narrow sea inlets that cut into the peninsula. No luxury hotel was found here; the Atana is the best equipped, with spacious rooms and resort facilities. It does not display a star rating.

Not to be confused with the Atana Khasab Hotel, a neighbouring property under the same name.

Rooms and suites

Every room has a private balcony or terrace facing the khor and the mountains, plus a minibar and a prayer mat. For a small family, the Superior takes a third guest, and the hotel provides cots and connecting rooms; there is also a sea-view Superior, the Horizon View. The Duplex and the suites, for two, add a kitchenette and a second balcony or terrace; the Musandam Suite, with Omani décor, a separate bedroom and a living room, suits a couple who want more space.

The sea from the hotel

The hotel's dive centre offers courses, guided dives, snorkelling, boat rides and fishing trips (see diving). Musandam's inlets, such as Khor Ash Sham, are traditionally explored by dhow (the wooden boat) from Khasab.

On the water, insist on life jackets for every passenger: pleasure boats do not always meet the necessary safety standards.

Dining, spa and shop

  • Arjan: Moroccan cooking.
  • Al Mawra: all-day restaurant.
  • Athila Spa and a gym.
  • Zaree: a shop selling Omani crafts, clothing and accessories.

Walking to the fort

Khasab Fort, a fifteen-minute walk away, faces the Strait of Hormuz. Built in the early 17th century under Imam Nasir bin Murshid al-Ya'rubi and strengthened during the Portuguese occupation, it is square, with four corner towers and a round central tower. It opens daily from 8 am to 6 pm local time. The peninsula's other sights are described on our Musandam page.

Getting to Khasab

  • By air: Oman Air resumed its Muscat-Khasab flight on 18 April 2026, with four flights a week at restart; the flight takes about 1 h 05.
  • By road from the UAE: through the Al Darah crossing from Ras Al Khaimah. You need a passport valid for six months and must be the holder of the vehicle's insurance: rental cars are no longer admitted into Musandam. A fee of AED 30 (UAE dirhams) is charged by bank card.
  • By ferry: the service to Khasab could not be confirmed in October 2026.

Coming from mainland Oman by road, and so crossing the UAE, you need a multiple-entry e-visa or a new 14-day visa at the border (see visa for Oman).

Climate

In Khasab, the average daily maximum is 24-26°C from December to February and approaches 40°C from June to August. The sea drops to around 23°C in winter.
