Al Nahda Resort & Spa is a countryside wellness retreat an hour from Muscat: 109 suites and villas scattered through 30 acres (about 12 hectares) of gardens planted with mango, citrus and date palms, at Barka in the Batinah region. People come less for the beach than to rest and follow a treatment programme. The hotel describes itself as a 5-star resort.
A wellness resort
The resort opened on 18 November 2006, Oman's National Day, on the site of a former mango orchard whose original trees were kept. The hotel sums up its promise as improving your health without giving up your life. Guests come to relax and recharge, to diet and detox, or simply to be pampered.
It is a different kind of address from Muscat's resorts: no big-name restaurants or nightlife, but lawns, shade and silence. It suits a restful stay of a few days at the start or end of a trip. See also spa and wellness.
The Uru Spa programme
On arrival, each guest meets a wellness consultant who draws up a personal programme. It combines relaxation, beauty and medical treatments with yoga and fitness, and can be paired with healthy spa cuisine. The spa has 10 treatment rooms and several dozen treatments, including Ayurvedic therapies (traditional Indian medicine). The hotel says its spa team is internationally qualified.
Suites and villas
The rooms are among the largest in Oman, according to the hotel, and all have a private outdoor space. The Executive Suite, in a block of four suites, is enough for a couple on a wellness stay; the Premium Suite, a single-storey bungalow among mango trees, is the quietest category. For a family or friends, the Suite Royale is a standalone two-bedroom villa with a living room and kitchenette.
Check-in is from 2 pm, check-out by noon (local time).
Meals
The resort has one restaurant and two bars. Khalab, open year-round from 7am to 10.30pm, serves an international buffet and an à la carte menu behind floor-to-ceiling windows looking onto lawns and trees. Al Warda Bar and Waha Bar complete the offer, with themed evenings.
Around Barka
Barka lies on the Batinah coast, about 55 km and some fifty minutes from Muscat International Airport. The resort makes a good base for the forts of Nakhal and Al Hazm at Rustaq, the Ain Al Kasfa hot spring, or a boat trip to the Daymaniyat Islands, a nature reserve off Seeb and Barka for diving and snorkelling. See our Batinah page.
Before you book
The hotel's website is old and offers neither rates nor online booking; in October 2026 the hotel did not appear on Google Hotels or Booking.com. Booking listings mention a pool, a lazy river and a kids' club that the official site does not describe. Sabaro asks the hotel for a price, opening dates and full details of services before offering you a stay.
Sabaro's view
Best for: travellers who want a rest or fitness retreat, couples looking for calm, families who want space in a villa.
Strengths: the personal wellness programme; the 12-hectare garden; suites of at least 65 m².
Worth knowing: price on request; a single restaurant; a website that is rarely updated; no beach described by the hotel; Muscat almost an hour away. For a beach resort in the Batinah, see Barceló Mussanah Resort.
