Islam's biggest festival
Eid Al Adha, the "Feast of Sacrifice", is the biggest festival in the Islamic calendar. It falls on the tenth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, during the pilgrimage to Mecca, and commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham. The day before, Arafat Day, is also a holiday in the UAE.
For 2027, astronomical forecasts reported by the Emirati press place Arafat Day on 15 or 16 May and Eid on 16 or 17 May. The press announces four public holidays, from 15 to 18 May 2027. As with every festival in the lunar calendar, the exact date depends on the sighting of the crescent moon and is confirmed only a few days ahead.
What visitors see
For a traveller, Eid Al Adha means public holidays and a very lively city: the Emirati press reports heavy visitor numbers from the region. Sabaro advises booking early for these dates.
May in Dubai: the end of the season
By mid-May summer is starting: the average May high is 38.2 °C, the low 26.1 °C, and the sea reaches 29 °C. Swim early in the morning and late in the day, and spend the middle of the day in the shade or indoors. Our Dubai in summer guide lists the precautions.
It is also the end of the outdoor season: Global Village closes in May, and many Hatta activities stop from 5 May. For Eid, beach resorts with pools and shade are the best choice, such as Jumeirah Beach Hotel for families or Atlantis The Palm with its waterpark; others are on our Jumeirah and Palm Jumeirah pages.
