Four days, three cities in one
You can do Dubai in four days if you are willing to choose. This trip keeps the essentials: the vertical city of Downtown, where you stay; Old Dubai along the Creek, about ten kilometres away; and the desert, less than an hour's drive, for one evening. Beaches, Palm Jumeirah and the theme parks need a longer stay, and the Dubai city and beach in 7 days trip adds them.
The format also works as a long stopover between Europe and Asia or the Indian Ocean. Entry rules are the same as for a holiday; the accepted document and the visa depend on nationality:

The right season runs from October to April. From November to March, average highs at Dubai airport range from 24.4 °C in January to 30.7 °C in November, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) 1991-2020 climate normals. From June to September they exceed 39 °C, and a programme spent mostly outdoors, like this one, becomes hard going.
Day 1: arrival and the fountain
Dubai is a few hours' flight from Europe's main cities, direct or with one stop6h40 from Brussels by direct flight. The city is on UTC+4 all year, 3 hours ahead of Paris in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Brussels in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Geneva in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Luxembourg in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer4 hours ahead of London in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer4 hours ahead of Dublin in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Frankfurt in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Vienna in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Amsterdam in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Rome in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Madrid in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer4 hours ahead of Lisbon in winter and 3 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Warsaw in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Prague in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Stockholm in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Copenhagen in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer3 hours ahead of Oslo in winter and 2 hours ahead in summer2 hours ahead of Helsinki in winter and 1 hour ahead in summer, so a daytime flight lands in the late afternoon or evening, local time.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is about 11 km from Downtown, around 30 minutes by taxi. Palace Downtown stands on Old Town Island, on the edge of Burj Lake, the lake at the foot of Burj Khalifa. It is a low-rise palace in Arabian style, with courtyards and fountains, and everything is within walking distance: the tower, the fountain, Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar and the Opera. Its palm-fringed pool looks straight at Burj Khalifa. Rates were found from about €590 a night for a double room in March 2027, with any per-night tourism tax on top.
The first evening belongs to the Dubai Fountain. The water, light and music shows start at 6 pm local time and repeat every 30 minutes until 11 pm, free to watch from the lakeside. The small boat that sails on the lake during a show, for half an hour, leaves every evening between 5.45 pm and 10.45 pm; it is the evening's only paid item, at about €16 per person.
Day 2: Old Dubai, then the city from above
The Creek in the morning
The morning is spent along the Creek, the inlet around which Dubai grew. The guided tour listed in this trip lasts 3 hours and crosses the Creek by abra, the wooden boat that shuttles between the two banks for 1 dirham, about 25 euro cents. It links three places:
- Al Fahidi, the old Al Bastakiya quarter, lanes of houses with wind towers (barjeel, which cooled the rooms before air conditioning), galleries and small museums;
- the Spice Souk in Deira, with its sacks of saffron, teas and spices;
- the Gold Souk next door, where jewellers line entire streets.
After the tour, Al Shindagha Museum at the mouth of the Creek tells the story of the city and the Creek, and also houses a perfume museum. For lunch, the Al Seef promenade, opened in 2017, has restaurants by the water. If you would rather taste the city with a guide, Frying Pan Adventures runs a 3.5-hour food walk through the souks at AED 425 per person, a little over €100.
Burj Khalifa at sunset
Head back to the hotel for the hottest hours. In the late afternoon, the At the Top observatory on levels 124 and 125 of Burj Khalifa is a few minutes' walk away. Tickets carry a time slot chosen when booking; prices vary with the time of day, and sunset slots are the most sought after, and so the most expensive. The basic ticket was found from about €45 per person; the version with level 148, its lounge and Arabic sweets, from about €77.
The Museum of the Future on Sheikh Zayed Road is closed; it is due to reopen in the first quarter of 2027.
Day 3: Jumeirah Mosque and the desert
The mosque in the morning
Jumeirah Mosque is the only mosque in Dubai open to non-Muslims. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU), Dubai's cultural visitor centre, runs 1 h 15 min tours at 10 am and 2 pm local time every day except Friday, for AED 45 per person, about €11, with no booking needed. Register 30 minutes beforehand; clothing must cover arms and legs, and women cover their hair.
The evening safari
In the afternoon, a car collects you from the hotel for the desert safari, a 7-hour outing in all: about 45 minutes of dune bashing, driving a 4x4 along the dune crests, sandboarding, a short camel ride, then a barbecue dinner in a desert camp with a show and soft drinks. It was found from about €58 per person.
Serious accidents on dune buggies and quad bikes are frequent in the desert: a 4x4 driven by a recognised operator is safer, and never go alone. The safari listed here is by 4x4, and Sabaro checks the operator's insurance.
Day 4: a free morning before the flight
The last day depends on your flight time. Three ideas close to the hotel:
- Dubai Aquarium in Dubai Mall, open from 10 am local time;
- a guided tour of Dubai Opera, one hour, in English;
- the Dubai Frame, a 150-metre frame in Zabeel Park between the old city and the new, open from 8 am local time (AED 50 per adult according to the official website).
A taxi to DXB takes around 30 minutes outside rush hour.
Safety and useful rules
The Iranian strikes on the UAE from late February to early April 2026, and further attacks in the region since July 2026, weigh on the destination. Foreign ministries do not all give the same advice. Your country's advice:

Our guide to Dubai and the regional situation sets out each government's advice.
Taking or sharing pictures of impact sites, debris or the security situation is a criminal offence in the UAE. Nor should you photograph government buildings, airports or people without their consent. Other rules on dress, alcohol and Ramadan are in the Dubai alcohol and conduct guide.

Frequently asked questions
Are four days enough for Dubai?
For a first look, yes: Downtown, Old Dubai and an evening in the desert fit into three nights. The beaches and Palm Jumeirah need two or three more days.
Why stay Downtown rather than by the sea?
Because the whole programme starts there: Burj Khalifa and the fountain on foot, Old Dubai about ten kilometres away, the metro at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, and the airport 30 minutes away.
Should I book Burj Khalifa in advance?
Yes, especially for sunset: tickets carry a time slot, and late-afternoon slots sell out first.
Is the desert safari suitable for children?
Dune bashing is a bumpy ride. Operators set their own age and health limits (pregnancy, back problems), and Sabaro checks them when booking.
Can I do this trip in summer?
You can, but it is tough going: highs exceed 39 °C from June to September. Old Dubai is then best visited very early in the morning, and our Dubai in summer guide lists the precautions.
