Art Deco recreated, in a residential district
Le Casablanca Hotel is a recent building: it opened in 2016 on boulevard Moulay Rachid, in Anfa, the residential district of villas on the hill, about five minutes from the business district and the corniche. It was conceived by Abdelghani El Guermai, a pharmacist and biologist by training, who wanted a hotel devoted entirely to the aesthetics of the 1910s to 1930s.
The decor borrows the vocabulary of Art Deco: a two-tone marble chequerboard floor, Macassar ebony (a dark, striped wood prized by cabinetmakers of the period), crystal-drop chandeliers, velvet sofas, mirrors and fluted columns. The lobby is the heart of the house, with its cabinetmaker's library and its bar, where a pianist plays in the evening.
Le Doge, the other Art Deco address in the city selected by Sabaro, is a genuine 1930s house in the centre; Le Casablanca recreates the period in a new hotel, with what the centre cannot offer: a garden, a pool and space.
A day between the garden and the lobby
The day follows the hotel's spaces, nearly all of them facing the garden and pool.
- In the morning, a buffet breakfast is served at Le Pavillon, in the middle of the garden by a fountain: 7 am to 10.30 am on weekdays and until 11 am at weekends, local time, with Moroccan specialities cooked in front of guests.
- At lunchtime and in the afternoon, Terrasse Jasmin, open from 8 am to 11 pm, looks onto the pool: fluted columns, black-and-white striped hangings, wrought-iron chandeliers. The menu mixes Mediterranean cooking, sushi, pizza and sandwiches.
- From 3 pm to 8 pm, the Lobby Bar serves a sweet and savoury afternoon tea, 360 dirhams for two, by reservation.
- In the evening, two restaurants: La Pergola, Mediterranean and French, from 7 pm to midnight; and El Glissa, whose name means "the little seat", for Moroccan cooking (pastilla, Essaouira-style prawn tajine, beef tajine with Medjool dates).
Twice a month, the Cinema Club turns Terrasse Jasmin into an open-air screening venue: a classic film, a cocktail inspired by the film and dinner, at 390 or 530 dirhams per person depending on the menu, drinks not included. The 2026 season opened on 24 April with Titanic.
Choosing a room
The 68 rooms and suites break down into 54 Superior Rooms, 6 Junior Suites, 7 themed suites and one Royal Suite.
In a Superior Room, the garden and pool view is the quietest; the Junior Suites are always on that side. The themed suites each tell a story, from the great train journeys of the Orient Express to the Moroccan Suite dressed in zellige (glazed terracotta mosaic). The Royal Suite, with two bedrooms, two living rooms and a private hammam, suits a family.
For a honeymoon, ask for the Bridal Suite or the honeymoon package (decorated room, flowers) when booking.
Jasmin' Spa
On the garden level, Jasmin' Spa has two hammam cabins and four massage cabins, plus a beauty salon. It works with two brands: La Sultane de Saba for the hammam and body rituals, and Biologique Recherche, a French facial skincare brand for which it has been the Casablanca ambassador since 2017. Cancellations must be made at least 12 hours before the appointment, or the treatment is charged. The fitness room, reserved for hotel guests, is open daily from 7.30 am to 10 pm.
Sabaro's view
Who it suits: couples, families with children aged 7 and over, travellers who want a garden and a pool in the city before or after a tour.
Strengths: a mid-sized hotel in quiet Anfa; the garden and pool, rare in the city; a lively lobby in the evening; a 4.6/5 rating on Tripadvisor from 1,339 reviews.
Good to know: children under 7 are not admitted; the hotel is popular with Casablanca residents, and some travellers report noise from the bar and neighbouring venues, as well as cigarette smoke in the bar; the Art Deco centre and the Hassan II Mosque are a taxi ride away.
