Casa Sur Antalya

Casa Sur is the place to stay in the heart of Kaleiçi, Antalya's old town, in a house with a soul. The painter Muhittin Selamet, one of the great names of painting in Antalya, lived and exhibited his work here; the house has been restored and turned into a hotel. Its name comes from the wall, sur in Turkish, against which it leans: a rampart founded in the days of the Kingdom of Pergamon and then extended by every empire that held the city. A botanical garden in the old town

Behind the house, the garden is where everything happens. Orange, mandarin and banana trees grow against the wall; from December to March you can pick the fruit straight from the tree. Yoga and meditation take place here, and it hosts parties and weddings. The bar's juices and cocktails are made with fruit from the garden, and breakfast is homemade.

The hotel calls its style "lean luxury": few rooms, personal attention, and a team that aims to be a local guide as much as a hotelier.

Eight rooms, eight looks

Each room has its own theme and Spanish name. All have air conditioning, a minibar and free Wi-Fi. For a couple, Rústica, with its tall carved bed and bathtub, is one of the most distinctive; in winter, Épica and Arbol each have a fireplace. Ecléctica looks onto Hadrian's Gate, and Planta, which can have twin beds, suits two friends.

The website does not give room sizes. The old house has no room adapted for guests with disabilities.

Restaurant and services

The hotel has its own restaurant, Cava Restaurant, and a terrace bar. The concierge arranges a Turkish bath and spa, diving, a guided tour of the old town, wine tastings, treks, car, motorbike or sailing-boat hire, and private transfers.

Location and access

Season

Antalya can be visited all year: highs of 15 °C in January and 35 °C in July and August. Spring and autumn are best for walking the old town and visiting the sites; in winter, the rooms with fireplaces and the oranges in the garden are the charm of the place.

Price

Priced at €436 for two nights from 1 to 3 June 2027, i.e. €218 a night for two in a "Cosy" double room, without breakfast, on a non-refundable rate on Booking.com. With free cancellation, the same check gave €241 a night.

Who it suits: couples and travellers who have come for the old town, museums and ancient sites, and want a characterful house rather than a big hotel.

Highlights: the citrus garden against the wall, rooms that are all different, the location near Hadrian's Gate.
