Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara is the Salalah luxury resort that sits beside a World Heritage site: it lies between a 250 m private beach, a freshwater lagoon and Al Baleed Archaeological Park, the remains of an old frankincense port. It has 136 rooms, suites and villas, including private-pool villas with one to three bedrooms. Anantara is the luxury brand of the Thai hotel group Minor Hotels.
Current situation: some European foreign ministries advise against travel to the Salalah region, and they do not all give the same advice. Yours:
Your country's advice is shown in the box at the top of the page.
The advice and its dates are gathered in our guide Oman and the regional situation. This page describes the hotel for information while that advice stands.
A hotel beside a UNESCO site
Al Baleed Archaeological Park preserves the remains of a medieval port that was active from the 8th to the 16th century. It is one of the four Dhofar sites that make up the "Land of Frankincense", listed in 2000 by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) together with Sumhuram, Wadi Dawkah and Shisr. The Museum of the Land of Frankincense stands inside the park.
The resort borders the park, with the lagoon in between, and guests can dine overlooking the ruins. The architecture borrows from Oman's coastal forts, with palm-lined walkways and water features. The hotel describes itself as Salalah's first and only pool-villa resort.
Rooms and villas
The choice is between a sea view and a private pool. Rooms and suites, for up to three adults, suit a couple: a sea-facing balcony in the room, a private courtyard with majlis seating (Arabian lounge) near the infinity pool in the Junior Suite. Villas add a 20 m² private plunge pool, 1.2 m deep, and a dedicated Villa Host; the two-bedroom villa, for up to six adults, is the family option. Some villas have temperature-controlled pools, and there are also three-bedroom villas and larger beachfront villas.
Beach, lagoon and sport
- The private beach, 250 m long, on the Arabian Sea.
- The 44 m infinity pool, between the gardens and the sand.
- The freshwater lagoon, with water sports.
- Sport: tennis, padel, mini-golf and a 24-hour Technogym gym.
Anantara Spa has five treatment rooms, a hammam, Ayurvedic treatments (traditional Indian medicine) and a Thai massage suite; it opens from 10 am to 9 pm local time. Yoga and fitness classes are also offered (see spa and wellness).
Dining
Three main restaurants and several bars:
- Sakalan: international buffet.
- Mekong: Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese cooking.
- Al Mina: seafood and Mediterranean dishes.
- Al Mare by Al Mina: beach bar.
- Dakar Lounge and Spice Spoons.
- Designer Dining: private dinners, some of them facing the archaeological site.
Children
The resort describes itself as family-friendly. Al Bahhara Kids Club takes children aged 4 to 12 (crafts, games, outdoor activities, Omani culture); teenagers have their own space, Alshirae, with sports and beach games. Two- and three-bedroom villas suit families (see family).
Around the hotel
The hotel's website puts Salalah International Airport and the city centre about 15 minutes away; by road, the airport is 22 km off, roughly twenty minutes. The same website gives about an hour to Al Mughsail beach to the west and 30 to 45 minutes to Wadi Darbat to the east (see Taqah, Mirbat and Wadi Darbat). The hotel offers trips to the lost city of Ubar, a frankincense ritual, fishing and dolphin watching. The wider area is covered on our Salalah page.
For boat trips, insist on life jackets for every passenger; inland, beyond Dhofar's coastal strip, some ministries ask for appropriate security arrangements.
Climate and seasons
In Salalah, the average daily maximum stays between 27 and 33°C all year. From June to September the khareef, the south-west monsoon, brings mist and drizzle and turns the mountains green: this is peak season for visitors from the Gulf. From October to March the skies are clearer and the sea is at 25-27°C.
Prices and times
On 20 October 2026, for two nights in March 2027, the cheapest room was offered at about €380 a night for two adults, breakfast included, with free cancellation, taxes and fees included, possible local taxes extra. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by noon, local time.
