Hotel Villa Mahal

Hotel Villa Mahal is the address to choose in Kalkan for a stay for two facing the sea. The hotel covers a pine-clad hill on the west shore of the bay, opposite the village: its curving white walls step down in terraces to the water. It was designed by İpek Tolbas, who made it as much a piece of architecture as a hotel. Condé Nast Johansens voted it the most romantic hotel in Europe.

Fourteen rooms facing the sunset

All rooms and suites face south-west towards the sea and open onto a private terrace. They have air conditioning and heating, a minibar, tea and coffee, a safe, bathrobes and slippers, and Wi-Fi. So every room has the view; what changes is the space and having water of your own. The Moonlight and Sunset rooms are enough for a couple, and the Sunset Suite, with its mosaic jacuzzi, suits a honeymoon. For a pool of your own, book the Pool Room or the Cliff House, which also takes families; the Beach House, at the water's edge, has its own private bathing platform.

Rates are bed and breakfast; dinner is à la carte.

The beach club and pool

Steps lead down from the rooms, past the triangular freshwater infinity pool, 9 × 19 m, to the Mahal Beach Club: platforms built into the hillside in the shade of olive trees. Underground springs cool the sea here and keep it very clear. In the evening the club turns into a lantern-lit terrace restaurant by the water. Three bars (beach, pool, terrace), a spa for massages and water sports from the club complete the picture.

The hotel also has its own sailing yacht, a Dufour Grand Large 52, for days along the coast.

Location and access

The hotel is 650 m from Kalkan harbour by water: a free water taxi runs from 9 am to 7 pm local time and takes 10 minutes. By road the village is 1.2 km away, a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute drive. Price

Price on request. For our reference dates, 1 to 3 June 2027, the hotel only accepted stays of at least three nights. For 1 to 4 June 2027, the official website showed €342 a night for two, without breakfast and non-refundable. Sabaro will pass on the hotel's offer for your dates.

Who it suits: couples, honeymoons and anniversaries, travellers who want the sea and silence.

Highlights: the view over the bay from every terrace, the triangular pool, the beach club, the water taxi to the harbour.
