## Why Djerba for thalasso

Djerba is a few hours' flight from Europe's main cities, direct or with one stop, with year-round direct services to several European countries, including France and Belgium. Winters on the island are mild, with average highs of 17 °C in January and 21 °C in March. This stay is built around rest: the seawater pools of a large thalassotherapy centre, thalasso being a course of seawater-based treatments, and a private beach.

You stay in a single hotel, with no repacking. Just two outings shape the week, a tour of the island and a day at sea; the rest of the time is yours for treatments, the beach or golf.

## The hotel

The [Hasdrubal Prestige Thalassa & Spa Djerba](/en/hotels/hasdrubal-prestige-djerba/) is on Sidi Mahrez beach, 18 km from the airport. It has suites only, 219 in all, junior suites and prestige suites. The thalassotherapy and spa centre covers 11,000 m²:

- thirteen private spa units of 130 m² each;
- indoor seawater pools for leisure, rehabilitation and a leg-circulation circuit;
- two jacuzzis, two hammams and saunas;
- three outdoor pools filled with seawater, fresh water and iron-rich thermal water.

The private sandy beach covers 10,500 m². There are also two tennis courts, a gym and nine restaurants and bars; the pool and beach bars open in summer only. Rates start at about €150 a night with breakfast, for a stay in March 2027. Thalasso treatments are booked separately at the hotel's rates.

## Day 3: around the island

A guided tour of [Djerba](/en/tunisia/djerba/) and the Guellala museum covers the island in a day. Djerba has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2023: the listed area covers 5,460 ha in seven sectors with twenty-four monuments, including part of Houmt Souk's historic centre.

### Houmt Souk

The main town keeps its quarter of fondouks, the old caravanserais, and its covered market where fish is sold at auction; market days are Monday and Thursday. Borj Ghazi Mustapha, a fort built in 1425 under the Hafsids and restored in 1567, opens from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm local time in winter and costs TND 8. The Museum of Traditional Heritage, near the Sidi Zitouni zaouia, shows island life, also for TND 8. Both close on Fridays.

### Guellala

The potters' village in the south of the island takes its name from the Berber word for potters. You can visit the workshops and see the underground clay deposit. Its private museum, opened in 2001 on a hilltop, recreates more than forty scenes of Djerban life.

### Erriadh and Djerbahood

The village of Erriadh has become an open-air street art museum, Djerbahood: more than 250 murals and installations painted in 2014 and 2021 by over 150 artists of some thirty nationalities. The El Ghriba synagogue, site of the annual Jewish pilgrimage, is next door. It opens every day except Saturday, usually from 9 am to noon and 3 pm to 5 pm, and often closes on Friday afternoons. Cover your head and shoulders; entry is through a security check.

On the way, the Fadhloun Mosque, of Ibadi origin and dating from around the 14th century, shows the island's distinctive religious architecture; it is open in the mornings for TND 5, except on Fridays.

## Day 5: Flamingo Island

North of Djerba, the sand spit of Ras Rmel has been a Ramsar site, protected under the international wetlands convention, since 2007. Boats leave from Houmt Souk and reach it in 45 minutes to an hour; the trip lasts six hours. Flamingos are mostly there from October to March.

## The other days

The free days are spent at the hotel. For golfers, Djerba Golf Club, ten minutes' drive away, has 27 holes; an 18-hole round costs €81.50. Our [golf and thalasso in Tunisia](/en/guides/golf-thalasso-tunisie/) guide compares the country's centres.

## When to go

| Month | Average high | Sea |
|---|---|---|
| January | 17 °C | 15 °C |
| March | 21 °C | 16 °C |
| May | 27 °C | 21 °C |
| July | 33 °C | 28 °C |
| September | 31 °C | 28 °C |

Thalasso works all year in the indoor pools. For swimming in the sea, come between June and October.

## Good to know

- **Entry requirements.** Tunisia has required a passport from all travellers since 1 January 2025; the [visa and entry requirements](/en/guides/visa-tunisie/) guide covers the length of stay and the validity required. The rule for your country:

(Depends on the traveller's country: see the table on https://sabaro-travel.com/en/ideas/djerba-thalasso-6-jours/)

- **Money.** Dinars can only be obtained in Tunisia; on 19 October 2026, €1 was worth TND 3.36. See the [money in Tunisia](/en/guides/argent-tunisie/) guide.
- **Taxes.** Prices include taxes; the tourist tax of TND 12 per person per night in 4- and 5-star hotels is paid at the hotel.
- **Safety.** Djerba lies outside every area advised against by the European foreign ministries Sabaro follows. The country has been under a state of emergency since November 2015, and several ministries ask for heightened vigilance. On 9 May 2023, an attack struck El Ghriba. The [safety in Tunisia](/en/guides/securite-tunisie/) guide has the details; foreign ministries do not all give the same advice. Yours:
