The Mora Sahara Tozeur is the resort to choose for a luxury desert stay a quarter of an hour from an airport: 93 suites and villas, many with a private pool, on the edge of the desert facing Chott el Djerid, the vast salt flat that stretches between Tozeur and Kébili. It is the former Anantara Sahara Tozeur Resort & Villas, renamed on 1 November 2025: it is now run under The Mora brand of the German travel group TUI and is still owned by Qatari Diar, the real estate investment company of the State of Qatar.

## The estate

The resort covers 40 hectares at Mrah Lahwar, away from town, between palm grove and desert. The villas look out over the chott, and the place comes into its own at sunset, when the salt flat changes colour. For a honeymoon it is one of the most obvious choices in the country (see [honeymoon](/en/themes/honeymoon/)).

## Suites and villas

The Mora's website does not yet detail each category. Room names, carried over from the Anantara era, may have changed: Sabaro confirms them when you book.

Suites sleep two adults and a child, and the view is what sets them apart: the Deluxe Garden View Suite overlooks gardens and palm trees, the Deluxe Sahara View Suite faces the desert and its sunsets. This is the suite to ask for. The private pool villas are the real luxury here: the one-bedroom villa for a couple, the two-bedroom family villa for four adults and two children, and the Royal Villa, secluded within the resort, for up to six adults and three children.

## The Pause Spa

The spa, The Pause, has a hammam, four single treatment rooms and a double, and separate wellness areas for men and women, each with a hammam, sauna and whirlpool. It opens from 9 am to 8 pm, local time. See also [spa and wellness](/en/themes/spa-and-wellness/).

## Five restaurants and bars

- **SARAB**, the main restaurant, 120 covers, open 24 hours;
- **Mekong**, the Asian restaurant, 50 covers;
- the **Berber Night Barbecue**, evening Berber-style grills, 100 covers;
- the **Lobby Bar** and the **Oasis Pool Bar**, by the pool.

## With children

Families have an outdoor pool with a children's pool, a games room and the two-bedroom family villas. For sport there is a gym, a multi-sports court (tennis, basketball) and table tennis. See [family](/en/themes/family/).

## Around Tozeur, and the advice to know

From the hotel, the sights of the Jerid are reached by car or on excursions:

- the Ouled el-Hadef medina in Tozeur, a 14th-century quarter with patterned mud-brick facades, and the palm grove of some 400,000 trees;
- Nefta and its Corbeille, about 20 km away;
- Chott el Djerid, on the tarmac road towards Kébili;
- Ong Jmel and Mos Espa, film sets for *Star Wars* and *The English Patient*, north-west of Nefta (see our [Star Wars in Tunisia](/en/guides/star-wars-tunisie/) guide).

The mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza and Midès lie within the 10 km strip along the Algerian border that several European foreign ministries advise against all but essential travel to. Several ministries also advise against travel south and south-east of the line Algerian border – Tozeur/Nefta – Douz – Ksar Ghilane – Tataouine – Zarzis, or south of a similar line: desert outings south of Tozeur are affected. Tozeur itself can be visited, with heightened vigilance. Foreign ministries do not all give the same advice; yours:

## Getting there

Tozeur-Nefta International Airport (TOE) is 6.5 km away, about 15 minutes. From October to June it has one to three direct flights a week from France, depending on the month; Tozeur is a few hours' flight from Europe's main cities, direct or with one stop. Tunisair Express runs domestic flights from Tunis. Check-in is at 3 pm and check-out at noon, local time.

## Season

The Saharan south is pleasant from October to April: in Tozeur, highs range from 17 °C in January to 27 °C in April, and winter nights drop to around 7 °C. Summer is scorching, with an average July high of 40 °C: the private pool villas come into their own, but the season of direct flights from France ends in June. Ramadan 2027 is expected from 8 February to 9 March.

## Price and tourist tax

In October 2026, for two nights from 9 March 2027, the cheapest suite was offered at about €390 a night for two adults, breakfast and taxes included, on a non-refundable rate.

The tourist tax is paid on top at the hotel: 12 Tunisian dinars (TND) per person per night in four- and five-star hotels, about €3.60 at the Central Bank of Tunisia rate of 19 October 2026, for up to ten nights; Sabaro confirms the amount charged. See our [money in Tunisia](/en/guides/argent-tunisie/) guide.

## Sabaro's view

**Who for**: honeymooners, couples, families who want a villa with a pool.

**Strengths**: the view over Chott el Djerid, the private pool villas, the airport 15 minutes away, and a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor (839 reviews).

**Worth knowing**: the rebrand is recent and category names may still change; direct flights from France only run from October to June.
