# The Chedi Muscat

The Chedi Muscat is a 5-star beach resort opened in 2003 in North Ghubra, on Muscat's seafront, about 25 minutes from the airport. Water gardens, three pools, a private beach and a 13-room spa make it the city's calmest and most distinguished address, with a Michelin Key and four Forbes Travel Guide stars.

The Chedi Muscat is the benchmark beach resort in Muscat: an estate of water gardens and reflecting pools between the sea and the Hajar Mountains, open since 2003 and still the city's most decorated hotel. It holds a Michelin Key (the Michelin Guide's award for hotels) and four stars from Forbes Travel Guide (the American guide that rates luxury hotels). The hotel belongs to the Chedi brand of the GHM hotel group.

## The feel of the place

People come to the Chedi for calm. The resort is laid out around water gardens, pools, palms and courtyards; rooms in the main wing have high ceilings and look onto water or gardens. The grounds cover 21 acres (about 8.5 hectares) on the seafront in North Ghubra, a residential district between the airport and the city centre.

It suits couples and travellers who want to rest between sightseeing trips: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is about ten minutes away by car, Muttrah and its souq about 25 minutes. For the city and its districts, see our [Muscat](/en/oman/muscat/) page.

## Two wings, two budgets

The Chedi has 162 rooms, suites and villas in two distinct wings, and the difference matters when booking.

- **The Serai Wing**, three storeys high, holds the entry-level rooms. The **Serai Room** (33 m²) looks toward the Hajar Mountains or the city; the **Serai Sea View Room**, the same size, faces the Gulf of Oman through a picture window. It is the hotel's best value for a couple who want a sea view.
- **The Chedi Wing**, on one or two storeys, is the original heart of the resort. The **Deluxe Room** (39 m²) overlooks the water gardens, the reflection pool or the mountains. The **Deluxe Club Terrace Room** (49 m²) adds a private terrace or balcony and Club Lounge access.
- The **Chedi Club Suite** (77 m², 38 suites) has a separate living room whose divans can sleep two children, and a sunken terrazzo bathtub. Club Lounge benefits include a private limousine transfer, afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

All rooms have an open-plan bathroom with rain shower and a king-size bed. They sleep two adults and one child, except the suite (two adults and two children).

## Six restaurants and courtyards under the stars

Dining is the other reason to stay. The hotel has six restaurants and lounges:

- **The Restaurant**, with four open kitchens (Western, Asian, Middle Eastern and Indian) beneath Omani arches, indoors or out;
- **The Beach Restaurant**, seafood facing the Gulf of Oman;
- **The Long Pool Cabana**, Japanese and Asian dishes, including sushi and sashimi, beside the long pool;
- **The Chedi Pool Cabana**, tapas-style plates and cocktails; **The Serai Pool Cabana**, the family-friendly option;
- **The Lobby Lounge** for coffee and drinks; **The Shisha Courtyard** and **The Arabian Courtyard** for evenings outdoors;
- **The Cigar Lounge**, open to hotel guests and members only.

In Oman, alcohol is served only in licensed venues such as hotel bars, to guests aged 21 and over.

## Three pools and a beach

Each pool has its own mood: **The Long Pool**, a palm-lined stretch of water; **The Chedi Pool**, facing the Gulf; **The Serai Pool**, beside the Serai Wing. The private beach runs along the grounds. The spa has 13 treatment rooms, set apart from the rest of the resort, alongside a health club and tennis courts. See also [spa and wellness](/en/themes/spa-and-wellness/).

## With children

Children are welcome, with no published minimum age, and The Serai Pool Cabana serves family-friendly food. There is no advertised kids' club: for a holiday built around children, [Kempinski Hotel Muscat](/en/hotels/kempinski-hotel-muscat/) or [DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha](/en/hotels/doubletree-muscat-al-waha/) are a better fit.

## Price

In October 2026, for a two-night stay in March 2027, the cheapest room cost about €440 a night for two adults, breakfast included, taxes and fees included, with any local taxes extra.

## Sabaro's view

**Best for**: couples, honeymooners (see [honeymoon](/en/themes/honeymoon/)), and travellers who want a hotel with character, in peace, without being far from the city.

**Strengths**: the water-garden setting; the dining, the most varied of Muscat's resorts alongside the St. Regis; the Michelin Key and four Forbes stars; a score of 9.2 out of 10 on Booking.com (1,372 reviews).

**Worth knowing**: Serai rooms are smaller (33 m²) and away from the water gardens; there is no kids' club; for a beach in a sheltered cove, look at [Jumeirah Muscat Bay](/en/hotels/jumeirah-muscat-bay/) instead.
