Taşkonaklar's story begins in 2003, its owners say: the owner's mother, visiting as a tourist with friends, falls in love with Uçhisar and restores an old house surrounded by a vineyard. During the works the house turns into a small six-room hotel, then the family buys the house next door, and so on. Today Taşkonaklar has 24 rooms spread across stone houses and caves around gardens.

## Very different rooms

The hotel groups its rooms into five types, and comfort varies a great deal: the Deluxe rooms have no indoor sitting area and no extra bed, while the suites have a fireplace, and several a terrace or an outdoor jacuzzi.

The MICHELIN Guide is frank: the entry-level rooms are small and dark, and it advises taking a suite. That is our advice too: the terrace is what makes this hotel.

## Moniq, Cappadocian cooking

**Moniq** champions the region's cuisine, shaped by Anatolian, Greek, Armenian and Ottoman traditions. It works with local women and their recipes. A wine cellar and garden bars complete the picture.

## Experiences

The hotel arranges many outings: balloon flights, dinner in a cave, a barbecue or sunrise breakfast in the valley, a sunset picnic, local wine tasting, hiking, cycling, horse riding, yoga and airport transfers. It also hosts ARC, a residency for artists and creators.

## Details that matter

Taşkonaklar welcomes pets: a bed, blanket and bowls are provided on request, and rugs are removed from the room. The hotel has dropped single-use plastic bottles from its bathrooms and serves water in glass bottles washed and refilled on site.

## Location

The hotel is in Uçhisar, Gedik Sokak No. 8, below the rock castle. Göreme is a few minutes' drive away and Nevşehir Airport (NAV) about 40 km. For the region, see our [Cappadocia](/en/turkey/cappadocia/) page.
