Sacred House is a theatrical guesthouse. The mansion, about two and a half centuries old, once served as a church, hence its name. It was rebuilt in classical and neoclassical style by the architect and designer Turan Gülcüoğlu, who made it a place apart, somewhere between museum, opera set and family home. The MICHELIN Guide cites it as an example of the best of boutique hospitality in Ürgüp.

## One room, one story

Every room has its own name and decor, from Old Chapel to The Sultan or Opium, in four categories running from Deluxe to the Sacred Suites.

The names set the tone: mystical, baroque, often spectacular. The hotel does not publish room sizes; for a first stay a Superior Deluxe gives a good idea of the house, and the suites add space.

## Virtus, Angels and Divine

**Virtus**, the house restaurant, presents itself as a place where the show happens in the kitchen as much as in the dining room, in a setting steeped in history. The **Angels & The Searchers** bar carries the evening on, and a spa completes the stay.

## Location

Sacred House is in central Ürgüp, at Barbaros Hayrettin Sokak No. 25. The town's restaurants are within walking distance; Göreme is about ten minutes by road; Nevşehir (NAV) and Kayseri (ASR) airports about 40 minutes and an hour away. Ürgüp is Cappadocia's small town, with the most restaurants and some evening life. For the region, see our [Cappadocia](/en/turkey/cappadocia/) page.

## Sabaro's view

**For whom**: couples who like places with character, bold decor and themed nights; travellers who want to dine and go out on foot, in town.

**Strengths**: an old mansion transformed by a designer; rooms that are all different; Virtus restaurant; a Google rating of 4.7 out of 5 (about 1,200 reviews).

**Good to know**: the decor is lavish, the opposite of minimalism; it is a town house, without the views of the hilltop hotels in Uçhisar. For another Ürgüp hotel, in a restored cave quarter with a starred restaurant, see [Kayakapı Premium Caves](/en/hotels/kayakapi-premium-caves/).
