Key Hotel is the İzmir address for anyone who wants to stay in the city somewhere with character. The hotel occupies the former Central Bank building, a modernist block opened in 1950 on the Kordon, the Konak seafront. It has 31 rooms and suites and is part of the MICHELIN Guide selection. It is the best base for a night or two in the city, on arrival or before the flight home.

## A 1950s bank

The building came out of an architecture competition won by Orhan Bolak, Doğan Tekeli and Ergun Unaran: the last two, still students at the time, entered under the signature of their university assistant. The quality of its design was recognised in a national competition in the 1950s.

In 2011 architect Derya Akdurak of the Makomim practice converted it into a hotel without altering its structure. Lost details were recreated from the original drawings, and all the furniture, fixed and loose, was designed for the hotel based on the building's history. The MICHELIN Guide highlights the building's cubic outline on the waterfront and the terrace wrapped around the top floor.

## The rooms

The hotel has 23 Standard rooms, 2 Superior rooms, 3 Family Suites, an Executive Suite, a Deluxe Suite and a Grand Suite. Depending on the room, the view is of the city, partly of the sea or straight out to sea, and that is what drives the price: city-view rooms are the cheapest. For the view, ask for a sea-facing room. To watch the sunset over the gulf from your room, the Grand Suite has a private corner on the terrace it shares with two other suites.

## Food and drink

Breakfast is a buffet; lunch and dinner are à la carte, with international cooking and a 250-bottle cellar of Turkish and foreign wines. The lobby bar serves coffee, cocktails and snacks. Room service runs 24 hours a day. A VIP lounge seats 2 to 24 people for a private dinner or meeting.

## Location

The hotel is on Atatürk Caddesi, the Kordon road, in the Konak district, about 18 km and 23 minutes by road from Adnan Menderes Airport. The Agora of Smyrna and the Clock Tower are in the same district. Urla and its vineyards are 35 minutes away and Alaçatı under an hour: see our [İzmir and Urla](/en/turkey/izmir-urla/) page.

## Prices

In October 2026, for two nights from 1 to 3 June 2027, the Standard double room cost about €219 a night for two adults, room only and non-refundable, including taxes and fees, or €437 for the two nights. Breakfast added about €19 a night and free cancellation about €11.
