In the Nehrozlar quarter of Midyat, Kasr-ı Nehroz is recognisable by its outline: a massive building with closed walls, flanked by two towers, that looks like a small medieval castle. The hotel describes it as a witness to sixteen centuries of history, restored for modern life. It is the Sabaro selection's address in the Mardin and Tur Abdin region, the plateau of Syriac villages.

Midyat is in Mardin province, which several European foreign ministries advise against, to varying degrees. The [Mardin and Midyat](/en/turkey/mardin-midyat/) page gives the advice for your country.

## Two buildings, 29 rooms

The hotel occupies two historic buildings: 24 rooms in the main building, including the only suite, and five in the second, including the family room. Couples can choose between a double bed and twin beds; a family should ask for the family room or one of the two triples, and a solo traveller for one of the two singles.

All rooms have air conditioning, a TV, a phone, a minibar, a safe, an internet connection and a bathroom with rain shower and hairdryer. A key-card system cuts the power when you leave the room. Room service runs 24 hours a day. The website does not publish room sizes.

## The courtyard, the cellar and the lounge

The **restaurant** opens onto the large courtyard in good weather; combined with the Mazrona hall, it seats up to 200, and the terraces take 120 in summer. Three evenings a week, regional cooking and international dishes are served with live music, along with genuine **Syriac wines**.

The **Şaraphane**, a former cellar, welcomes groups of up to 14 by reservation in its historic setting. The **Divanhane** serves as café and lounge. Three meeting rooms complete the building, including the 56 m² Mazrona hall.

## Midyat around the hotel

Midyat was founded by the Syriacs; Assyrian tablets of the 9th century BC already mention it as Matiate, the "city of caves". At 1,070 m, it is one of the most populous districts in the province. The television series filmed here since the 2000s have revived silver filigree work, known as telkari. Mardin is 67 km away, about an hour by road, and its airport is linked to Istanbul.

## Price

Google Hotels showed no rate for 1 to 3 June 2027 when we checked in October 2026. The price is therefore on request: Sabaro confirms it with the hotel for your dates.

## Sabaro's view
