# DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha

DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha is the family resort of the Barr Al Jissah complex, about 40 minutes from Muscat airport. Formerly Shangri-La Al Waha, it has been run by Hilton since 1 January 2026. Its 302 rooms, pool with lazy river and waterslide, kids' club and beach of over 500 m make it the family choice, from about €300 a night with breakfast.

DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha is Muscat's family resort: 302 rooms around a large pool with a lazy river and waterslide, a kids' club, a play zone and more than 500 m of private beach, in the Barr Al Jissah beach complex south-east of the capital. Al Waha means "the oasis" in Arabic. DoubleTree is a brand of the US group Hilton.

## The children's resort

Of our Muscat hotels, this is the one most focused on children. The **Cool Zone Kids' Club** welcomes 4 to 8-year-olds from 9am to 6pm (local time); under-4s come with an adult. The **Adventure Zone** adds slides, climbing walls and ball pits. Around the **oasis pool**, little ones have their own pool and splash pad, older children the **lazy river** and the **waterslide**.

On the beach, water sports, beach volleyball and tennis keep teenagers busy, and the complex runs dolphin-watching cruises. See [family](/en/themes/family/).

## A new name since 2026

Until the end of 2025 the hotel was called **Shangri-La Al Waha**. On 1 January 2026 the Shangri-La group stopped running the Barr Al Jissah complex; Hilton took over its three hotels and announced it on 5 January 2026. Al Waha became DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha, the adults-only [Al Husn](/en/hotels/al-husn-muscat/) is on its way to becoming a Waldorf Astoria, and Al Bandar became Hilton Muscat Al Bandar.

Booking sites sometimes still show the old name. Room and restaurant descriptions published by tour operators often date from the Shangri-La era, so Sabaro confirms room categories and services with the hotel before every booking.

## Family rooms

Every room has a balcony or terrace.

The garden-side Guest Room is the cheapest, for a couple or a small family; the same room on the sea side looks over the beach and Al Jissah bay. With one child, the larger Deluxe sea-view room adds a sofa. With two children or more, interconnecting rooms, one with a king bed and one with twins, are the right answer; the One Bedroom Suite has a separate living room.

## Beach and sea

The private beach runs for more than 500 m along Barr Al Jissah bay. The Extra Divers dive centre, certified by PADI (the international diver training organisation), operates from the complex. See also [beach](/en/themes/beach/) and [diving](/en/themes/diving/).

For parents, there is the hotel's **Chi Spa**, with a steam room, hydrotherapy pool and ice fountain, and the complex's **Luban Spa**.

## Where to eat

Tour operators list **Samba**, **Assira**, the pool bar, and **Turath Café**. Hilton has not yet published its restaurant list, and names may have changed under the new operator.

## Sharing the Barr Al Jissah complex

The DoubleTree shares its site with two other hotels: Hilton Muscat Al Bandar and Al Husn, for guests aged 16 and over. Al Husn guests can use the DoubleTree's facilities. The complex is about 40 minutes from Muscat International Airport and half an hour from the city centre. The more upmarket [Jumeirah Muscat Bay](/en/hotels/jumeirah-muscat-bay/) sits in the neighbouring bay of Bandar Jissah. See our [Muscat](/en/oman/muscat/) page.

## Price

In October 2026, for a two-night stay in March 2027, the cheapest room cost about €300 a night for two adults, breakfast included, taxes and fees included, with any local taxes extra. Among the resorts we have chosen in Muscat it is the cheapest; only the Grand Hyatt, a city hotel, costs less.

## Sabaro's view

**Best for**: families with children aged 4 to 12 who want a fun pool, a beach and activities without leaving the hotel.

**Strengths**: the pool with lazy river and waterslide; the all-day kids' club; the long beach; the price.

**Worth knowing**: a score of 8.6 out of 10 on Booking.com (432 reviews), below Muscat's luxury resorts; entry-level rooms of 32 m²; a recent change of brand whose effect on services remains to be seen.
