Dar Benti is the guest house to pick for staying inside the Monastir medina: seven rooms and suites in a restored house at the end of a quiet lane in the old spice merchants' quarter, a few steps from the Bab El Gharbi gate. The ribat, the museums and the beaches are all within walking distance, and the airport is about ten minutes away by car.

## Who it suits

The house suits couples and small families who prefer the feel of a medina to the large hotels of the resort strip. It also has a suite adapted for guests with reduced mobility. With seven rooms, the welcome is personal and the atmosphere calm. See also our [boutique hotels](/en/themes/boutique-hotels/) page.

## Rooms: from courtyard to upper floor

The seven rooms and suites are named after people: Karim, Alyssa, Emilie, Sarah, Shaïne, Elise and Caroline. They range from 22 to 48 m² and are split between the ground floor, around the courtyards, and the upper floor, beside the pool. Marble or travertine floors, local stone arches and Tunisian furniture set the tone; the rooms the house describes all have air conditioning and a smart TV.

The ground floor offers the privacy of the courtyards, the upper floor the light and the pool a few steps away. For a honeymoon (see [honeymoon](/en/themes/honeymoon/)), take the Karim Suite, with its own courtyard and heated private jacuzzi; for a family, the Alyssa Royal Suite, the largest, whose shower is suitable for guests with reduced mobility. Upstairs, Emilie fits a child on a sofa bed, and Elise, smaller and very bright, is made for a couple.

The suites have gas central heating, useful from December to February, when nights drop to around 9 °C.

## The house

The main courtyard is the heart of the house. The pool is on the upper floor, next to the rooms around it; parking is provided, which matters in a medina. The house's website offers a 360° virtual tour to get a feel for it before booking.

Breakfast is served on site. There is no restaurant: in the evening you eat out in town.

## Monastir on foot

From the front door, the old town is easily explored without a car:

- **the ribat**, founded in 795-796, with its watchtower and a museum of Islamic art displaying a 10th-century astrolabe from Córdoba: 8 Tunisian dinars (TND), about €2.40, for non-residents;
- **the mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba**, the first president of independent Tunisia, who was born in Monastir, with its gilded domes: free entry;
- **the seafront**, between the marina, the ribat esplanade and the fishing harbour;
- **the souks**, for leather, blankets and basketwork.

The Kuriat Islands, about 18 km offshore, can be visited by boat on a half-day or full-day trip; the potters' village of Moknine is 20 km away. Details are on our [Monastir](/en/tunisia/monastir/) page. El Jem and its Roman amphitheatre combine well with [Mahdia and El Jem](/en/tunisia/mahdia-el-jem/).

## Getting there

- Monastir airport (MIR): the town centre is 8 km away, about 10 minutes;
- Enfidha-Hammamet airport (NBE): 74 km, about 1 hour;
- Tunis-Carthage airport (TUN): 186 km, about 2 h 30.

The address is Bab El Gharbi, avenue Mahmoud Bourguiba, Monastir. The Sahel Metro, the coastal commuter train, leaves from a station next to the airport terminal.

## Season

The house does not announce any closure. The sea is warm from June to October, around 26 to 27.5 °C in July and August at Monastir; in spring and autumn the town is pleasant for sightseeing. Most Europeans come between April and October. Ramadan 2027 is expected from 8 February to 9 March.

## Price and tourist tax

Price on request: Sabaro obtains the rate from the house for your dates.

Tunisia's tourist tax is paid on top, on site: TND 8 per person per night in three-star hotels and TND 12 in four- and five-star hotels, for up to ten nights; Sabaro confirms the amount the house charges. At the Central Bank of Tunisia rate of 19 October 2026, €1 buys TND 3.36.
