Dar Antonia is the guest house to choose if you want to sleep inside the Sousse medina rather than on the coast: a house of suites arranged around a fountain courtyard at 21 rue Kaabar, within the old walls. People come for the atmosphere of a Tunisian home, personal service and a proper restaurant, a few minutes' walk from the monuments of the old town.

## The house

Everything turns around the courtyard, where the fountain can be heard from the ground-floor suites. The interiors are by designer Philippe Xerri: fine materials, colours drawn from the Mediterranean and the medina, and contemporary furniture set into old spaces.

Service is closer to a butler than to a hotel front desk. The butler will unpack for you if you wish, plan your days and make bookings. The house also arranges guided tours of Sousse, including access to palaces and monuments in the medina.

## The suites

The house's website presents six suites, each with its own character: Ambre, El Fell, Mimosa, Nérolis, Musc and Yasmine. Sizes, beds and amenities are not published; Sabaro asks the house for them before offering a suite.

A couple seeking calm should take Ambre, the most intimate, set to the sound of the courtyard fountain. For space and the full benefit of the butler, El Fell is the most spacious; for a culture-focused stay, Nérolis takes its colours from the Mediterranean and the medina.

With around half a dozen suites, the house stays very quiet: you will meet few other guests.

## La Table Dar Antonia

The house restaurant, La Table Dar Antonia, is run by chef Michel Mehdi, who cooks creative, signature dishes. It is booked separately, like the suites. See also our [food and dining](/en/themes/food-and-dining/) page.

## In the Sousse medina

The medina of Sousse, once the port of the Aghlabids (the dynasty that ruled what is now Tunisia from 800 to 909), has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. Its monuments are within walking distance of the house:

- the ribat, a fortified monastery completed in 821, with its watchtower: 10 Tunisian dinars (TND), about €3, for non-residents;
- the Great Mosque, built in 851 and shaped like a fortress: TND 5, about €1.50;
- the archaeological museum, in the kasbah, for its Roman mosaics: TND 10, closed on Mondays.

Full details are on our [Sousse](/en/tunisia/sousse/) page. Dar Antonia pairs well with a few beach nights at the [Mövenpick Sousse](/en/hotels/movenpick-sousse/) or the [Iberostar Selection Diar el Andalous](/en/hotels/iberostar-selection-diar-el-andalous/).

## Getting there

Monastir airport (MIR) is about 15 km from Sousse, some fifteen minutes by road; Enfidha-Hammamet airport (NBE) is 48 km away, about 40 minutes.

## Season

The house does not announce any closure. For a town stay the best months are spring and autumn: from March to May, and in October and November, the weather is mild and the medina can be explored without the heat. In July and August daytime highs reach 32 to 33 °C on the Sahel coast. Ramadan 2027 is expected from 8 February to 9 March: see our [Ramadan and public holidays](/en/guides/ramadan-feries-tunisie-2027/) guide.

## Price and tourist tax

In October 2026, for two nights from 9 March 2027, the cheapest suite was offered at about €85 a night for two adults, breakfast and taxes included, on a non-refundable rate.

Tunisia's tourist tax is paid on top, on site: TND 8 per person per night in three-star hotels and TND 12 in four- and five-star hotels, for up to ten nights; Sabaro confirms the amount the house charges when you book. At the Central Bank of Tunisia rate of 19 October 2026, €1 buys TND 3.36. See our [money in Tunisia](/en/guides/argent-tunisie/) guide.

## Sabaro's view

**Who for**: couples, travellers who want to stay in the medina, food lovers, culture-focused trips (see [boutique hotels](/en/themes/boutique-hotels/)).

**Strengths**: the medina location, the butler service, the chef's restaurant, the calm of a house with only a few suites, and a 4.2 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor (75 reviews).

**Worth knowing**: the house publishes few details about its suites (sizes, beds); for the beach you need to leave the medina.
