# Morocco entry requirements by nationality

Visa rules, length of stay and the passport validity required depend on nationality; an ID card is not enough, you need a passport. You should also check on arrival that your passport has been stamped.

## Passport and length of stay, by nationality

A passport is mandatory, including on package tours; ID cards are refused. Visa rules, the visa-free length of stay and the passport validity required depend on nationality:

(Depends on the traveller's country: see the table on https://sabaro-travel.com/en/guides/morocco-entry-requirements/)

If the rule for your country has not been checked, consult your own foreign ministry or the Moroccan consulate. Requirements differ from one country to another: a passport valid for at least six months after your return satisfies all those checked here.

**A passport in good condition.** A damaged passport, or one with an incomplete machine-readable zone, may be refused; a passport reported lost or stolen and later found is no longer accepted. Carry a copy or photo of the identity page: identity checks are frequent.

## On arrival

- **The stamp.** Border police endorse the passport: a number on a first visit, then an entry stamp. Check it before leaving the desk. Without a stamp, you may be staying irregularly without knowing it, and some travellers have had trouble leaving.
- **Return ticket and funds.** You may be asked for a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds. A hotel booking or travel itinerary helps answer questions.
- **Beyond 90 days**, an exceptional extension of up to three months is requested from the Moroccan immigration service, at a police station. Overstaying is punished by a fine and expulsion with a ban on re-entry.

## Children

Each child travels on their own passport.

- **With both parents**: proof of parentage is recommended, such as a birth certificate or family record book, especially if surnames differ.
- **With one parent**: the other parent's consent is recommended; after a divorce, a copy of the custody ruling; if the father has died, the mother shows the marriage and death certificates, or a court authorisation.
- **Alone or with a third party**: parental consent with a certified signature is mandatory, together with a copy of the birth certificate and a copy of the signing parent's passport.

## Dual nationals

Morocco treats its nationals as Moroccan, whatever their other nationality. Consular help from their European country may then be limited. A dual national usually enters and leaves on their European passport, but must also show the Moroccan electronic national identity card (CNIE), compulsory from age 16; they need their European passport to return to their other country. Before you leave, check your country's foreign ministry.

## Health and insurance

No vaccination is mandatory for travellers arriving from Europe. A polio vaccination certificate is required from travellers arriving from a country affected by the disease.

Check before departure that your insurance covers Morocco, hospital treatment and repatriation: private clinics in the large cities are of a good standard, care is paid on the spot, and medical facilities are far more limited in the countryside. Some countries have a social security agreement with Morocco: check with your health insurer before leaving.

Some anti-anxiety drugs and painkillers common in Europe are classed in Morocco as illegal substances. Keep them in their original packaging, with the prescription and, if possible, a doctor's letter.

## Money, customs and vehicles

The Moroccan dirham (MAD) cannot be exchanged outside Morocco: you may enter and leave with up to 2,000 dirhams in banknotes, and change your money locally. Foreign currency enters freely, with a declaration from the equivalent of 100,000 dirhams. Drones are banned without an import licence. The details, including allowances and VAT refunds, are in our guide to Moroccan customs.

A traveller arriving by car on the ferry has the vehicle recorded against their passport and must leave with the same car. Temporary admission and driving rules are covered in our Driving in Morocco guide.
