Eid al-Fitr 1448 is expected to be celebrated in Tunisia on Wednesday 10 March 2027. This is the date given by the astronomical calculations of the Cité des sciences in Tunis for the first day of Shawwal, the month after Ramadan; the last day of fasting would be Tuesday 9 March. The official date is set by the religious authorities after the crescent moon is sighted, so it may shift by a day.

## The festival of breaking the fast

Eid al-Fitr, the "festival of breaking the fast", marks the end of the Ramadan fast. It is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal. In the Maghreb it is also called Eid es-Seghir, the "little festival", as opposed to Eid el-Kebir, the festival of sacrifice. Before the Eid prayer, each believer must pay zakat al-fitr, the alms of the breaking of the fast, the equivalent of a meal given to the poor.

## Public holidays

The public-holiday forecasts of qppstudio, a calendar publisher, show three days off, from Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March 2027; they assume a 29-day Ramadan. According to the Cité des sciences, the festival falls on 10 March, and the holiday then covers two or three days from that date.

These are public holidays: check the opening hours of sites, museums and shops before each visit.
