## The festival of breaking the fast

Eid Al Fitr, the "festival of breaking the fast", marks the end of the month of [Ramadan](/en/events/ramadan-dubai-2027/). It begins on the first day of the lunar month of Shawwal, once the crescent moon has been sighted, so its exact date is only announced the evening before.

For 2027, astronomical forecasts reported by the Emirati press put it on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March. Public holidays follow: 9 to 11 March if Ramadan lasts 29 days, 9 to 12 March if it lasts 30. According to the official UAE portal, public holidays are not moved to other dates.

## What visitors see

After a month of daytime discretion, the city returns to its usual rhythm: restaurants open at all hours, normal opening times at sites. Families get together, malls and leisure parks fill up, and, according to the Emirati press, these holidays draw many visitors from the region.

Fireworks are part of the celebration: Global Village usually puts on a display for Eid, but the 2026 fireworks were cancelled by government decision during the Iranian strikes on the UAE. The 2027 programme has not been published yet. Foreign ministries do not all give the same advice. Your country's advice:
